I found this gem by Katherine Applegate while working as a sub here locally in an elementary school. It is about an animal shelter and a group of dogs that run away from that animal shelter. One of the dogs is a robot that needs to be charged to continue functioning. It explores the concepts that are central to the Wild Robot about robotics and AI. In this book the focus is on whether or not something artificial can be a pet.
